The Reading Spelling Toolkit is designed for children aged 6 - 10 or Prep to Grade 6. However, many children I support in private practice are older.

That's because reading difficulties are rarely about age. They're often about gaps in a child's knowledge and skills.

This program is also a strong fit for children who:

- have dyslexia

- struggle to sound out unfamiliar words

- rely on guessing

- find spelling hard

Most parents notice a change in their child's reading and spelling after working through the first two modules.

Once children can recognise consonant sounds and are introduced to just a few vowel sounds, suddenly they're reading words like shark (CVC) and troop (CCVC) with growing confidence.

Module 1 has 12 short videos, each around 5 minutes, followed by hands-on activities you do together with your child. Most families find they can fit a session easily into 15 to 20 minutes four or five times a week.

Module 2 has 9 teaching videos, averaging around 5 minutes each with built-in pause points so your child can practise right inside the lesson. Air writing, building words, reading words, and playing games are all examples of the way learning is cemented. 

You can move through the modules as quickly or as slowly as suits you and your child. 

Yes, supporting children with dyslexia is central to this program.

In fact, my belief is simple: when we get it right for children with dyslexia, we get it right for all children.

Over the years, I’ve seen children with dyslexia, ADHD, and ASD, as well as neurotypical children make meaningful progress using this approach.

The program is designed to support different ways of learning. New sounds and spelling patterns are anchored to:

•  visual supports
•  simple auditory cues
•  hands-on activities

So children aren’t left trying to “figure it out” - they’re shown exactly what to do.

A key part of this is errorless learning. Your child is set up to succeed at every step.

If they get stuck (which often happens with vowel sounds), they’re shown exactly where to look and what to do next so small, achievable wins build on each other.

This isn’t a program that pushes children through content they’re not ready for.

It meets them exactly where they are at and helps them move forward confidently.

To get the most out of the program, yes, it's recommended that an adult sits with your child throughout. That might be you, or it might be a grandparent, aunt, uncle, or caregiver who sits with your child.

In the videos, I speak directly to whoever is in that role - referred to throughout as the Literacy Leader. So no matter who is sitting with your child, they'll know exactly what to do and when to do it.

At various points you'll be prompted to pause the video while your child, referred to as the Young Apprentice, completes a task. 

Parents are their children's first and most important teacher and for a child who has been finding reading and spelling hard, simply having you there, present and engaged while they experience success, is more powerful than you might realise.

The Reading Spelling Toolkit isn't an app. It's a structured, tutorial-based program you work through together with your child.

That's a very fair question.

In my experience, this approach works because it meets children exactly where they are at.

Some children already know their consonant sounds and move quickly through the early modules. Others need more time there and that's completely fine.

What I consistently see in my clinical work is that no matter how much a child already knows, every child I have ever worked with has gaps in the more complex vowel sounds like aw, au, ir, ur, oi, oy, ou and ow.

With just six consonants and three vowel sounds, children can start reading real words early on in this program.

So rather than asking your child to fit the program, this program adjusts to your child. It finds the gaps and fills them.

Very little and that's intentional.

The Reading Spelling Toolkit is hosted on Kajabi, which means you can access it from any device with an internet connection. PC, Mac, tablet, iPhone, or Android - no software downloads, no complicated setup.

There is also a free Kajabi app available on Apple and Android devices, which makes accessing the program on your phone or tablet even simpler. You log in once and everything is right there waiting for you.

You'll also need a few simple materials - a whiteboard and markers, and a printer for the activity sheets. That's it.
